Hi, my name is Robby. Allow me a few lines to introduce myself:
I am a son of West Texans. I am from Lubbock, TX, the biggest city in West Texas between Dallas and El Paso. I graduated from a small, West Texas private university with a Bachelor's of Business Administration in Marketing. I am of English, Scottish, and German descent. I speak English well (round of applause, please) but I also speak Spanish and Hebrew okay. I enjoy travelling, playing (and spectating) tennis, learning new things, and listening to rap music with positive messages (Love you, 'Crae).

The pictures above introduce my dog, Jolie. She's the cutest, sweetest, attack/guard dog ever to grace my life with shedding, slobber, potty training, and a whole host of bodily functions. She has been a great friend to me throughout my angsty teenage years and she's really part of the family. If you are familiar with Linus, a Peanuts character (shout-out to the late Charles Schulz!), you'll understand when I say that my Jolie trots happily in Linus's footsteps, carrying around a blanket with her everywhere she goes in the house.
This blog's title, "Like a Tree," refers to a quote from Back to the Future II ("Why don't you make like a tree... and get outta here?") and to the first chapter of Psalms/Tehilim, in which King David compares the world and its hardships to a strong wind. He uses two plant metaphors to describe people's reactions to this wind: 1. Chaff (dead grass) which blows around in the wind and 2. A tree planted by a river that prospers and flourishes despite the wind. What is the difference? How does one become like a tree? (<--- see what I did there???). King David told us that he whose "delight is in the law of the Lord and on his law [he] meditates day and night." From this paragraph, you can see two more of my passions: nerdiness and ancient texts written by Jews. On this blog, we'll be discussing some of these texts, life, love, and whatever mysterious, unforseeable things lie in wait for us.
The last introduction that I want to make is for a man named Jesus. You've probably heard about Him, you've probably heard a lot of differing opinions and stances regarding His teachings and life. If you have experienced Him, then you understand when I say that He literally saved me. I am a sinner and I don't deserve to know God, but by His grace, God sacrificed His Son, Jesus, for my sake, giving Jesus the punishment that I deserved because He loves me and you too. If you have never experienced Jesus, you are still welcome here and I want you to know that He loves you very much and He died for you too.
Thanks for your patience in reading that! What I would love is for this blog to be a place where you and I can connect despite any barriers of distance, culture, beliefs, etc. Your comments and especially your questions are always welcome here as long as you don't abuse the others who have come to discuss. Please leave me a comment and introduce yourself. :)
Much love,
Robby
